Gwyneth Paltrow To Raise Her Children Jewish

Picture_1
Not a bad celebrity to get on our side! Just kidding, kind of.

Gwyneth Paltrow has announced her intentions on raising Apple + Moses as tribal members. Following her apparence on ancestry show Who Do You Think You Are, she's decided to raise her children as Jewish. She found out that her family comes form a long line of influential East European rabbis and now is inspired to raise her kids in a Jewish home. However, a problem because Gwyneth's mother Blythe was Christian and her father Bruce was Jewish (thereby making Gwyneth Christian, since genealogy experts say the child's religion is the same as the mother's religion), And so technically, her children are not likely to considered Jewish by religious authorities.

I hope this report is true. Not a bad person to represent the Jewish people.

Ziggy Marley: An Awesome Musician and Human Being

There was this article in the Jerusalem Post today:

Reggae star Ziggy Marley rejects calls to boycott Israel

Personally, I'm thankful for any star willing to go out of his way against the status quo and tour Israel. Ziggy is no exception. Here are some article highlights:

  • “People say, don’t disgrace your father’s name by going to Israel and all these type of things,” the eldest son of the late musical icon Bob Marley said at a press conference Tuesday at the Sheraton Hotel in Tel Aviv, referring to the negative responses he saw on Facebook and other sites upon publication of his Israel tour dates.

“What I tell them is that, listen, I follow nature, I follow the universe, I follow God. I’m not a part of the segregation that people put on each other … I’m a part of nature and God, and God made the sun shine for everybody.”

  • This isn’t Marley’s first visit to Israel, both as a performer and visitor. His wife is Israeli and he said his young children speak Hebrew. And there are other ties to the land for Marley, who said his culture of Rastafarianism is rooted in concepts developed in “this region of the world.”
  • “Rastafarianism has a lot to do with the Old Testament and Solomon and David and Moses, so we have a strong connection from many years back,” he said.

To sum up, Ziggy rocks. I'm glad that if I move to Israel, I'll get the opportunity to see him!

Internship update!

Hi all. Not too much new on the internship front, but I'll try to catch you up.

First of all, I have another feature coming out this week! Finally! Woo! My feature is on a Latino surf/ skate company based in California, called Puropedo No Worries Wear. It should be coming out on Wednesday and was interesting to work on the feature because usually white businesses dominate the action sports market.

In our next issue, I have a story! I can finally see my name in print. It's on mobile wallets. I've decided that technology writing is my favorite.

I'm learning quite a bit about business through TransWorld. This is fantastic for me, because I'm considering getting an MBA (probably in marketing).

This summer has not been a waste!

Ben M's Portfolio Review

Ben's portfolio is not only professional; it is also personal. He portrays himself as a person and a journalism in the well-designed site.

Pros

  • Nice design
  • Mission statement
  • Nice picture
  • Writers who inspire him
  • Well organized published quotes

Cons

  • Can contact the school but not Ben
  • Resume could use work/ use a PDF
  • No reason to use school stories (not published)
  • Does he blog/ tweet? A skill list would be nice.

Ben's portfolio is well designed, and it show's who he is. He is a young professional, but he seems unexperienced posting class clips. He should add his skills and remove his class clips.

Sara K: A Site Review

Sara produced an extremely professional site. Here's a anaylsis of her site. Let me know if you have any quesitons.

Stregnths:

  • Clean design
  • Links to her articles are clear
  • Her biography is detailed and well-written
  • There's a photo of her on her biography
  • Nice online/ pdf resume
  • Nice clips on published writting although Boulder Weekly seems absent
  • There's categories
  • Contact info is up to date and interesting

Weaknesses:

  • Do the blog posts have a theme?
  • No disclaimer
  • Biography is too long and wordy
  • missing Boulder Weekly clips under published clips

Clearly, Sara appears to be a young professional in journalism on her resume. It is well-written and gramatically correct and shows Sara's passion for journalism. The only could add category descriptions to make her site better.

Internship update

This past week at TransWorld Business was fine. My boss was out of town. He was first in California and then in Germany. Once again, I had to deal with being alone and was sometimes bored. Being alone has taught me to be self motivated, which I sometimes fail at. I have to remind myself not to spend the day on Twitter or Facebook or some other site. I have to remind myself that my work needs to get done whether the boss is in or not. I have to be my own boss. It isn't easy, and I honestly still get distracted. I love when there's a higher up near me to keep me on track.

On another note, this is the last article I published- http://business.transworld.net/67412/features/the-line-break-quiksilver-skateboarding-collection-fall-2011/.

I can't believe there's less than a month left at TransWorld. The summer is flying by.

I'm also working on social media efforts for Luna Claire. "Like" them! Let me know if you have any suggestions!

Another Internship Update

Not too much new on the internship front. However, we have a new editor-in-chief. The former EIC, based in California, stepped down, and now my boss, based in Boulder, will take over. I know he will do a fantastic job. Check out the article about it here.

I'm still working on the same features, etc- nothing too exciting to post!

I've also still been calling people about wakeboarding. One man was furious that I didn't know who he was (apparently he's a well-known wakeboarding dealer) and was quite obnoxious. This shook me up for a few hours. I hate how rude people can be when talking to journalists...
